Crossfit Box Etiquette

So as The Open and the craziness that comes along with it has started, I thought I would write the blog this week about something a little different; ‘CrossFit Box etiquette’.

We all know that CrossFit works a little differently to “normal” gyms and having chalk all over the floor is hardly unusual or frowned upon 😉 However, here are a couple of tips to remember when coming to the box.

  • GREET NEW MEMBERS……We all were the “new guy” or “new gal” at one point. Take time to greet your new gym mates. After all, these are the people that you are going to shed blood, sweat, and tears with. A CrossFit box can be very intimidating, so a friendly introduction can really settle some nerves.

  • PUT YOUR STUFF AWAY …… especially with The Open happening at the moment, there will be loads of equipment being used. And this goes for normal class too, if you used it put it away. This includes rubber bands for pull ups, barbells, dumbbells and also water bottles  😉 On the same token, if you have done a particularly sweaty WOD, take a minute to wipe your equipment down ready for the next person to use.

  • DON’T BE A CHALK MONSTER….. So yes, we all love the stuff, however strewing it all over the floor is not cool. It’s there to be used and not messed 🙂

  •  GYM GEAR…… You guys all know I have issues with shoes and love my CrossFit “kit”. Always wear clean gym gear and appropriate shoes to the box. Take your towels home and wash them.

  •  LISTEN TO THE COACHES….. It does not matter if you’ve been doing CrossFit for 1 month or 5 years, it’s disrespectful to have your own conversation while the coach is trying to give instruction to the class. Listen up!

  • CHECK YOUR EGO AT THE DOOR…..CrossFit is humbling to everyone, aim for progress not perfection. Trying to be perfect and better than everyone will leave you in tears.

  • HAVE FUN…… While we do take our training seriously, we want everyone to have some fun in the process, we enjoy a laugh as much as you do. 🙂

Out of these points guys, the main thing for me is “JUST BE A NICE HUMAN” the rest will come with that.
